There are certain things that you can do which can increase the chances of you getting back together with your partner. Likewise, there are some things you need to not do in order to avoid alienating your ex even more.
1. It is important that you limit the amount of contact you have with them initially after the breakup has occurred. Although you may find it difficult, don’t attempt to call them or email them for the first couple of weeks. This would not only make you appear desperate, but it will often push your ex even further away from you.
By providing them with space you will be giving both of you an opportunity to reflect on what had gone wrong and whether or not to continue the relationship. Let the hurt feelings and harsh words fade away for awhile before attempting a reconciliation.
2. Sometimes it is better to agree with your ex that breaking up is the thing to do at this time. This shows that you are willing to be sensible and mature. It will also make it easier to stay in contact with them in a friendly manner until you both can decide if breaking up was really the right thing to do.
3. When it is time to actually communicate with your ex again, don’t immediately bring up the past. Keep things light. Show them the side of you that they were attracted to in the first place. This could rekindle some of those feelings you both had in the beginning when falling in love.
It isn’t easy to wait awhile before contacting your ex, but it will be worth it in the end. Emotions need to calm down and anger to fade. If you go about it in a mature and sensible way, you may have a chance of getting back with your ex.
